Aspen my weekends in the mountains

For our first (and favorite!) nature-inspired design, we chose the aspen leaf: an emblem of creativity, character, and quiet strength, just like the tree itself.

It took hours to draw this one out by hand. But that’s part of the magic; slow, intentional design rooted in love for the land.

With each design, we’ll share a few facts about the subject because appreciating nature starts with understanding it.

We ramble between the South and Colorado, but our favorite time to be in the Rockies is fall, when the aspens put on their golden show.

Did you know aspens are all connected underground? One giant organism, one massive root system. There’s even a colony in Utah, called Pando, that weighs in around 13 million pounds and includes over 40,000 trees. Talk about strong roots. Learn more here.

Colorado is also home to one of the largest aspen groves in the state and one of the largest in the country.

And next time you see an aspen up close, touch its bark—you’ll notice a soft, powdery coating that can be extracted to be used as a natural sunscreen. Nature’s got you covered.

Just one reminder, y’all: pack it in, pack it out, and please don’t carve into these gorgeous trees. Let them stand tall, just as they are.
